IWC movements

by VCLuxury on Jul.01, 2010, under IWC, Watches

Some modern movements in watches of IWC are based on movements supplied by ETA and heavily modified by IWC. This is common practice by many high end watch marques. In particular, the Caliber 30110 is a modified ETA 2892A2, and the Caliber 79230/79320/79350 is a modified ETA/Valjoux 7750. Like all high end automatic watches, IWC watches lose or gain approximately 4 seconds a day.

Movements not based on ETA movements include the Caliber 5000 and the Caliber 8000, which use the Pellaton winding system, and the pocket watch movements used in the Portuguese F.A. Jones and other IWC pocket watches. IWC also used a JLC meca-quartz movement in their older Portofino chronographs

Since 1997, IWC has been offering a unique horological rarity for on-line auction annually organized at IWC’s website. The proceeds from the auction are donated to the Ecole des Sables – Antoine de Saint Exupéry school in Mali. The school provides education for the Tuareg children.

In 2007, the Company auctioned the platinum version of the Pilot’s Watch Automatic Edition Antoine de Saint Exupéry, Reference 3201. The timepiece was created in tribute of the French author and aviation pioneer. The model was auctioned together with an original copy of Exupery’s debut novel, Courrier Sud (Southern Mail), featuring a handwritten dedication by the author. In 2009 IWC introduced the Big Pilot edition Antoine de Saint Exupéry in 1900 pieces. Only one of them will be in platinum and will be auctioned for charity.

IWC Breaking New Grounds

by VCLuxury on Mar.20, 2010, under IWC

Dating as far back as 1868, IWC replica watch was founded by an American watchmaker, Florentine Ariosto, and Swiss, Johann Heinrich Moser, in the Schaffhausen (German-speaking part of Switzerland). Their name stands for International Watch Company.

Throughout the 20th century, the company introduced many innovative watches which are a class of its own. This has attracted the collectors to their brand name.

They started creating wrist watches for both the British Royal Navy and the Imperial German Navy in the 1900. A major breakthrough in their invention was an anti-magnetic system that revolutionized pilot watches in the 1940s.

In 1954, they created their proprietary automatic-rewinding mechanism and included it within their Ingenieur collection. In 1985, they made their next proprietary perpetual-calendar system that has accuracy up to 500 years.

They broke the record in diving watches in 1998 when they launched the Aquatimer which has a water-resistance of 2000m. Then in 2000, they created their 7-days power reserve automatic movement known as Caliber 5000. It was incorporated within their Pellaton winding system. It was introduced into their Big Pilot’s Watch thereafter in 2003.

IWC Big Pilot's Watch

This is their pilot watch collection under the Fliegerchronograph brand series. The 43mm case was crafted from a single block of steel and houses their anti-magnetic mechanism. There are other pilot watches from the company to take note of:

The Grande Complication was introduced in 1990 which consisted of 659 parts and was the most complicated timepiece during then. However, the Grande Complication is still very much sought limited edition. It integrates perpetual calendar, chronograph, and minute repeater within its complication that has an anti-magnetic case. It is definitely a unique and interesting collection item.

Another collection, the GST sports watches, was introduced in 1997. The recent designs under this collection are GST Perpetual Calendar and GST Split-second. Both designs incorporate automatic winding movement with a shock resistant and anti-magnetic mechanism that in accordance to NICHS 91-10 standards.

Another fantastic creation by fake IWC watch is the Portuguese collection (started since 1940). One of its most interesting introduction was the Portuguese Perpetual Calendar, a complication that has the Caliber 5000 (seven day power reserve) with Pellaton winding mechanism. It also has a new moonphase display patented by the company. The accuracy of this perpetual calendar is amazing with only a deviation of 1 day in 577 years.

New Vintage Portofino and Other Models By IWC

by VCLuxury on Mar.16, 2010, under IWC

IWC Vintage Portofino

Last year IWC company celebrated its 140 year anniversary. In honor of this event the company released almost precise duplicates of its most popular models: Portuguese, Ingenieur, Pilot’s Watch, Da Vinci, Aquatimer and Portofino. These watches were popular in the past. Today they are not a bit less popular.

Taking into account popularity of vintage style replica watches IWC company decided not to limit itself to release of 140 sets that consist of 6 models in platinum case. These models can be bought apart. Only platinum versions are limited to 500 pieces. Stainless steel versions with black dials are not limited, so anyone can by a jubilee watch.

Actually, jubilee remakes cannot be called precise duplicates of previous models. In spite of the fact that new watches are very similar to legendary originals, they are more likely new versions of old classic models. Original models were released in small cases, while jubilee versions have bigger and more eye-catching cases.
Ones of the greatest watches in jubilee collections are, of course, new IWC Portofino.

IWC Portofino

Portofino is one of the most elegant collections by IWC. These watches are direct descendants of elegant pocket watches Lepine that had been released by IWC during a few decades. The case of new Portofino looks the same as the one in old models. IWC Vintage Portofino uses mechanism that was developed on the base of Caliber Jones 98. Additional moon phases and side seconds dials are positioned traditionally at 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock correspondingly. Vintage Portofino features an improved moon phase indicator. The previous one required correcting once in 2 months, while moon calendar in the new version must be corrected only after 122 years. Sapphire crystals allow to admire the splendidly decorated Caliber 98.

Six piece platinum set costs 186 000 euro. Fake IWC watches are not Coca-Cola, there is no reason buying 6 pieces at once in order to save money. The set is designed for collectors who long ago bought 140 sets. The set comes ina luxurious case that houses a very beautiful leather bag with watches. This is a real wonder.

by VCLuxury on Jan.22, 2010, under IWC

IWC Aquatimer Cousteau Divers Watch T
that is tastefully incorporated into the commemorative caseback.

The Replica  IWC Watches Aquatimer Chronograph “Cousteau Divers” watch utilizes the automatic-winding caliber 79320 which has a 44-hour power reserve. Featuring a day and date indication, this mechanism also supports a chronograph which can measure elapsed minutes and hours. The operation of the IWC “Cousteau Divers” is easy and intuitive.

The lower button Fakes Watches, the “Cousteau Divers” adds unique stylistic touches and a very personal piece of the Cousteau legacy U-boat, a perfect example of IWC’s innovative engineering—performs two distinct operations: When it is turned, “The Calypso”, which was piloted by Cousteau and his crew; set beneath a sapphire-glass cover and inlaid with a silhouette of “The Calypso”, a transmission wheel disengages the rotating bezel and it functions as a traditional chronograph reset button—sending the stopped chronograph hand back to the “zero” position. A dial in rich ocean blue and a matching rubber strap ensure that the IWC Aquatimer Chronograph “Cousteau Divers” watch is visually distinct from other models within the Aquatimer line.

The back of the Aquatimer “Cousteau Divers” incorporates a small piece of polished wood from the cabin of the famed research vessel Concord Vacheron,he IWC Aquatimer Chronograph “Cousteau Divers” watch is both a highly capable dive instrument Replica Cartier Jaeger LeCoultre, and a thoughtful homage to the pioneering spirit of legendary marine conservationist Jacques-Yves Cousteau and his crew. While incorporating the same fine technical aspects of the Aquatimer Chrono-Automatic Blancpain Louis Vuitton Tudor, this unique detail serves to highlight the important work undertaken by Jacques Cousteau. The 2500-piece limited edition ensures that this watch will remain a cherished collectible; a portion of the proceeds from each IWC Aquatimer Chronograph “Cousteau Divers” sold will go to the Cousteau Society Alain Silberstein Ulysse Nardin, an organization that works in conjunction with IWC to protect marine habitats around the world. IWC Laureus – Good Watch, Great Cause

by VCLuxury on Dec.15, 2009, under IWC

Fresh off of a huge charity event (ONLY Watch 2009 auction raised about 2 million EUR to help fight Duschenne Muscular Dystrophy) I figured I would share another “good watch for a great cause” – the IWC Portuguese Automatic Laureus 2009:

illu_laureus_sport_02

The deep blue dial of this watch and matching strap really catches the eye, don’t you think?

Replica IWC Wath has been a long time supporter of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, which helps children and young people in mostly third world countries who have fallen victim to poverty, homelessness, war, violence, and other injustices.  This makes the fourth time that Replica IWC Watch  has dedicate a watch to the Laureus cause – following on from the Portuguese Chrono-Automatic in 2006, the Pilot’s Watch Chrono-Automatic in 2007 and the Da Vinci Chronograph in 2008, IWC has chosen its Portuguese Automatic to carry its “support for sport” in 2009.

Limited to 1,000 watches, the 2009 IWC Portuguese Automatic Laureus Sport For Good Foundation Edition (Ref. IW5001) has a seven-day power reserve display, as well as a medallion on the back of the case showing the winning drawing from the “Team spirit” painting competition - 12-year-old K.D. Sriyan Chamod Dilshan from Sri Lanka:

illu_laureus_sport_01

He illustrated the theme of “Team spirit” with a picture of four young people holding hands in a circle.  According to IWC, “The engraving is a reminder that part of the proceeds from sales of the watch will go towards projects for underprivileged children in troubled areas of the world.”

IWC Schaffhausen also created an illustrated book, “Let the Children Play”, in order to attract more attention to the considerable social involvement of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation which will accompany the watch..

illu_laureus_sport_04

Anyone who buys the Portuguese Automatic Edition Laureus Sport for Good Foundation will get a copy of the book, which shows 10 of the more than 65 projects supported by the Foundation to help underprivileged children.

Well done, IWC!

IWC Acheives the Highest Luxury Brand Status Index Ranking for 2009

by VCLuxury on Dec.15, 2009, under IWC

Again, IWC has secured the top ranking of luxury watch brands performed by the LBSI. The index measures the value and equity of luxury brands across North America, using data collected by wealthy American consumers of these products. The information is from actual wealthy consumers, rather than non-consumers of luxury goods that only recognize names like Tag Heuer and Rolex.

The index uses factors such as “quality, social status and self-enhancement” in order to base their results. IWC’s blend of uniqueness and exclusivity, superior quality, self-enhancement and status gives them a unique place among consumer’s hearts.

This is not a huge surprise to me, but I agree that Replica IWC Watch is among my favourite watch brands and I am set on purchasing another IWC watch and adding to my collection soon!

Not the one I’m getting, but a little eye candy: The Replica  IWC Watch Portuguese Tourbillon Mystere.

The Evolution of the Wrist Watch

by VCLuxury on Nov.28, 2009, under IWC

Boy, have we come a long way when it comes to telling time.  You wouldn’t believe what some of our ancestors were wearing back in the day.  In the 1500’s the first timepieces to be worn were called clock-watches. A clock-watch got its name for obvious reasons; it was the perfect size between a clock and a watch.  Could you imagine how big those things were?  They only had an hour hand and they had to be wound twice a day.  One thing that stayed the same was the fact that the good watches were expensive and the rich and the famous usually had the chance to play with new fashions before it hit mainstream.

So after the failure of the IWC clock-watch (inaccuracy and poor movement) the pocket watch was born in the 1600’s.  Of course fashion influenced the invention of the pocket watch.  According to history, pocket watches were created when Charles II of England introduced the waistcoat to gentlemen around the world.  The pocket watch was pretty popular, they are still around today, but accuracy came in 1657 when the balance spring was invented, 1765 when temperature compensations and chronometers came to light, 1800 when the lever escapement was invented by Thomas Mudge, 1850 when humanity realized mass production could cause pop culture obsessions, and 1900 when materials got a little more creative.

All this lead to the invention of the wristwatch, which women had been wearing for a long time before it became “manly”.  The first wristwatches were called trench watches and they had the same movements as pocket watches and were larger than what we know wrist watches to be today. In the 1930’s pocket watches finally became history as John Harwood created the self-winding system in 1923 and changed watch making forever.

Since the first wristwatch, Electric watches were created in 1950 and Quartz watches were created in 1969. Even though we’ve made wrist watches better through digital technology, we still haven’t really derived from the original design.

However, some say the cell phone is the new watch, which is an arguable point…but with so many watch enthusiast out there; I doubt we really give up their wristwatches and stick with cell phones.
